Magic Metallics
Mayco Magic Metallics
Create a real metal finish with Magic Metallics™.
Magic Metallics are not a faux finish but a real metal coating. These coatings contain real ground metal particles that adhere to the surface and cause the finished piece to look as though it’s actually made of metal. Magic Metallics may be applied to almost any paintable surface. They work like magic to create patina and real rust finishes. The Metallic Finishes are beautiful used alone but may be further enhanced by the addition of one of the Patinas or the Rapid Rust Finish. The metallic finishes can be mixed to create an endless variety of metallic colors; Magic Metallics can also be mixed with acrylic paint. The base color or combination of colors used, the application of rust and patinas, the length of time the product is allowed to process before it is neutralized or dried, the amount of product used, even the temperature and humidity will all affect the finished results. A unique and original finish can be obtained every time. Follow our instructions or have fun experimenting on your own with unique combinations of metallic finishes and patinas.
Product Features, Attributes and Application Recommendations:
Apply a base coat of the metallic finish. Allow to dry. Apply a second coat. If your desire a patina or rust (steel only) finish apply the Patina solution while the second coat is still wet and slightly tacky.
Apply your choice of Patina antiquing solution to base-coated piece with a brush, sponge or spritzer bottle. As the solution dries, the Patina will develop.
Once the desired effect is achieved, apply neutralizer to stop the process.

SECTION 1: PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Apply patinas over wet Metallics to age the metal particles. Just like nature, only faster. Use Rapid Rust only with Steel Metallic. Purple Tint does not patina but is used to add color and interest to your Magic Metallic creations.
While the second coat is still wet, apply a Patina by brushing, sponging or spritzing. The Magic Metallic colors need to be wet for the patina to oxidize, with the exception of the MM103 Dark Bronze, which will patina even when dry. The patina causes the metallic to oxidize just as they do in nature only faster. Allow the surface to oxidize overnight. Steel is the only one that will rust.
1. Apply Sealer If working on glass, spray first with MM-516 Surface Primer or brush on MM-502 Matte Sealer so the Steel will adhere better. 2. Apply Steel Brush or sponge on two to three coats of MM-106 Steel Metallic. While the last coat is still wet, start step 3. 3. Apply Rapid Rust Spritz, brush or sponge it on. Steel must be wet when MM-305 Rapid Rust is applied. The change will begin within 20 minutes. Wait 24 hours for the rust to completely develop. Then seal with MM-502 Matte Sealer.
dry the piece with a hair dryer. Seal with Matte Sealer.
Magic Metallics can be used alone for an elegant metal finish, or combined with Patina or Rapid Rust oxidizer for a unique variety of aged finishes. Magic Metallics are versatile enough to be used by anyone - a student working on a paper maché mask up to an advanced decorative artist looking for an elegant and unique finish.
