Mad About Melon Watermelon Bowl
From the rind to the juicy insides, create a bowl that looks so real you’ll want to eat it! Everyone’s favorite summer fruit is ripe for the painting on the Duncan® large mixing bowl. So grab your brushes, some Duncan® Concepts® colors and get started!
Wipe bowl with damp sponge to remove bisque dust.
Brush three coats Light Kiwi to outside of bowl including base. Let dry.
Draw a small (approximately ¼” circle) on bottom of bowl with pencil.
Lightly sketch irregular stripes from top of bowl approximately 2” wide tapering down to thinner stripes and meeting with circle on base. Leave 1” to 1½” space and continue making stripes all around bowl.
Brush the irregular stripes with Bright Kiwi from top of bowl approximately 2” wide tapering down to meet the small round circle on bottom. Let dry. Brush a second coat over first. Let dry.
Crumple piece of plastic wrap and dip into Bright Kiwi. Dab around edges of stripes creating an irregular pattern. Let dry.
Paint a little Dark Straw around the penciled circle. Let dry. Dab center with Black. Let dry.
Sponge a coat of Neon Red to inside bowl leaving a little white area around rim area. Let dry. Sponge or brush two additional coats. Let dry.
Paint seeds with Black randomly inside watermelon. Let dry thoroughly.
Brush a coat of Pure Brilliance to upper white area inside bowl. Let dry.
Brush or sponge a second coat Pure Brilliance to entire bowl. Let dry.
Stilt on kiln shelf and fire to cone 06.
